Consulting Overview Randi Sumner has over fifteen years of experience shepherding associations to sustainable success. She has worked with a wide range of non-profit organizations from those with a $25,000 annual budget and no staff to those with an almost 275 million annual budget and over 1,000 employees. Sumner brings to her consulting perspective, the knowledge and wisdom acquired as the Chief Staff Executive of the New Jersey Society of Association Executives, an organization that services the many Executive Directors located in NJ. In addition to her breadth of expertise as a non-profit professional, she is also a business communications trainer, executive and presentation style coach, conference/event planner and professional speaker. Her work related to Tecker Consultants now focuses on workshops and strategic sessions that foster techniques and behaviors linked to creating more productive, collaborative and inclusive work environments. Prior to becoming a Senior Associate with Tecker Consultants, Sumner held the staff post of Executive Vice President & Chief Operations Officer of TC Resources, a venture of Tecker Consultants. She was responsible for managing new business projects and program initiatives for the organization such as the Tecker Consultants Regional Resource Consortium as well as TC's business partnerships with AssociationLeadership.com and AssociationDataZone.com. Her work related to Tecker Consultants now focuses on workshops and strategic sessions that foster techniques and behaviors linked to creating more productive, collaborative and inclusive work environments. Non-Profit, Not-For-Profit & Association Experience Prior to joining the Tecker team, Sumner served as Executive Director of the New Jersey Society of Association Executives (NJSAE) for four years. She was instrumental in leading NJSAE through a complete revamp of member services, educational programming and image branding. Within the first year of her leadership, NJSAE saw a marked improvement in member and non-member attendance at events such as a 250% increase in annual net revenue. In addition, her work with the volunteer leadership and the membership-at-large helped NJSAE to revitalize its image with the regional industry media and the association community at-large in the greater New Jersey area. Prior to becoming NJSAE's first full-time Executive Director, Sumner's experience spans numerous and varied organizations including the New Jersey Apartment Association, New Jersey Citizen Action, New Jersey Environmental Federation, Washington State Citizen Action, Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition, Maryland Citizen Action, Human Rights Campaign Fund, CLEC Canvass Network, Massachusetts Women's Budget Initiative, 1992 GOTV Fund, Brandeis University Alumni Relations Office and the 1988 Paul Simon for President Campaign. In addition to her strength in organizational transformation and project management, Sumner has held a variety of positions working with associations, political groups and charitable endeavors developing expertise in coalition building, community outreach, revenue creation, conference and education development, trade show management, membership and customer service, leadership training, grassroots organizing, marketing and image branding, public relations, knowledge management and new product development. Professional & Community Involvements Sumner has been honored to receive recognitions including a 2002 profile by Association Management Magazine for "Keeping Your Edge," an Association Trends Young & Upcoming Executive of the Year Award in 2000, the New Jersey Society of Association Executives Points of Light Award in 1999, the 1996 National Apartment Association Innovative Funding Program Award, a 1992 Human Rights Campaign Fund Certificate of Appreciation for Legislative Action and Presidential Election Service, and the 1991 Brandies University Katherine A. Chernowski Award for Conscientious Living. Sumner brings an appreciation for both the staff and volunteer aspects of governance due to her years of service within the association community. She held numerous volunteer and leadership posts including the 2000-2003 Allied Partners Representative for ASAE Services, Inc. Board of Directors; 2001 ASAE Annual Convention Host Committee, 2000-2001 ASAE/Allied Society Partnership Ad Hoc Task Force; National iMIS Users Group, Founding Officer & Board Member; National Apartment Association, Association Executives Council; Director & Convention Chair, NJ Society of Association Executives; Interactive Literature Foundation, Conference Co-Chair; NJ Real Estate Exposition Planning Committee, Apartment Industry Representative; Brandeis University Alumni Admissions Council, Central Jersey Chair; HP School Construction Referendum, Committee Chair; and Highland Park Education Foundation, Trustee. Education & Professional Certification Sumner earned her Certified Association Executive (CAE) in 1998 and is a cum laude graduate of Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
