Developing Coherent Outcome-Oriented Strategy
Where are you headed… and more importantly, how are you going
to get there?
Tecker Consultants helps clients thoughtfully determine their direction—at
all levels of the organization. We do this by carefully articulating
clearly defined and desired outcomes that clearly represent what will
constitute success. And thinking strategically about the changing environment
and how your organization will respond to evolving influences, factors
and issues.
Tecker Consultants understand the discipline of strategy. We view strategy
as a carefully considered response to the environment that achieves
defined outcomes by maximizing strengths, addressing weaknesses and
distinguishing the organization. Our clients define success as achieving
the outcome-oriented goals of the plan—not merely following it.
In keeping with this approach, metrics for monitoring and adjustment
in response to changing circumstances or experience are built right
into the strategy.
Our experience in a wide variety of environments and organizations let
us help clients see alternatives that might not be obvious—assessing
advantages, disadvantages, risks and consequences of alternatives—and
more confidently selecting a course of action.
Market & Member Research
What do your members or customers want? What changes are taking place
in your environment? Your industry? Your profession? Your organization
itself?
Research is a powerful and necessary tool for organizations managing
through change. Using qualitative and quantitative research methods,
we develop a database of information and insights that guides decisions
about needs, wants and preferences. Exploring issues at a macro level
to drive strategic direction, or at a micro level to determine, for
example, the expectations of a particular product or service.
Our team of researchers and consultants are well versed in all forms
of market and marketing research, including telephone interviews, surveys
and focus groups. Using a variety of newer technologies such as Web-based
surveys, we’re also able to engage audiences whose views might
otherwise remain unknown. Most importantly, we understand when and how
to properly use research to illuminate issues and develop the insight
needed for confident decision making.
Educating Leaders
Do your leaders and staff have the competency and skills they need to
lead your organization into the next century? Are they aware of the
challenges involved in managing a knowledge-based enterprise?
Tecker Consultants offers a wide range of educational programs that
keep your organization 'ahead of the curve.' Building the leadership
and organizational skills required to be more responsive to members'
and customers’ needs. Improve internal and external relationships.
And think in a strategic way about your organization’s future.
Every Tecker education program is custom tailored to the unique requirements
of the client. Our work in defining the intellectual, emotional and
behavioral competencies required for the 21st century has earned us
an international reputation for programs that are concise, research
based, enjoyable and actionable.
In addition to our leadership and management seminars, our interactive
educational approach can be applied to the development of custom tailored
learning in functional competencies that include strategic planning,
facilitation, conflict resolution, innovation and problem solving, knowledge
based decision making, new product development and instructional design.
Financial Strategies
Alternate Revenue Streams
Efficiency and Effectiveness
In these days of limited resources and increasing member demands it
is essential that organizations make the best use possible of what is
available to them. Unfortunately all systems degrade over time. This
means that even in the best run associations growing inefficiency is
inescapable. The Tecker and LangCPA team can provide both a fresh perspective
and a customized analytical approach to the financial side of how you
do business. The results of an Efficacy Overview will be a series of
specific recommendations that can help assure you and your members that
the organization is maximizing the value of both your financial and
human resources.
Strategic Targeting of Resources
Nonprofits today are under growing pressure to achieve greater accountability
and transparency. Practical solutions to accomplish this have been few
and far between. Fortunately, the Tecker and LangCPA team have developed
a very workable new methodology. The goal of this service is to both
allow your association to respond much more nimbly to its ever changing
environment – while pursuing precisely those goals that are set
out in your strategic plan. In addition, this outcome oriented work
will relieve those pressures related to preserving board integrity on
decisions directly impacted by return on investment accountability.
Strategic Targeting can help your organization take the practical steps
forward which will assure your leadership’s confidence in management
and increase your members’ perception of value.
Revising Dues
Most associations at various points in their history confront the necessity
of changing what they charge for dues. All too frequently this is accomplished
by guessing what the members will be willing to pay. Fortunately, the
Tecker and LangCPA team have sound business methods available which
can generate appropriate rates for dues as well as the likely financial
impact on your organization of undertaking various alternatives. The
value in using such methods as “the cost to serve a member”
is that the underlying rationale for dues increases can be presented
to members in a sensible and easily understood format. This allows many
organizations to bypass what could be a divisive political decision
and move forward towards a logical business-based decision.
Case studies are available to describe some
of our experience.
Evaluating Success & Governance Models
Tecker’s model for "knowledge based strategy" is widely
acclaimed as a leading edge and practical best practice for building
a planning process—or moving an existing process to a far higher
level of confidence and success.
What’s the overall health and effectiveness of your organization?
How well do your programs, services and activities meet your members’
needs? Which programs are worth keeping? Dropping? Fixing? Tecker Consultants
has a variety of in-depth evaluation tools that can be used to assess
key aspects of your organization.
• Performance Assessments provide an in-depth review
of organizational practices and trends. These might include an assessment
of areas such as sources of revenue, allocation of expenses, analysis
of staff competencies, or utilization of staff resources. Using Tecker
Consultants’ Model of Association Infrastructure (which considers
key elements such as stakeholders, governance, program staff and volunteer
workforce structures, financial information and knowledge flow), we
help your group craft an organizational strategy—defining changes
in structure and work processes that will be needed to implement your
strategic plan.
• Strategic Program Analysis assesses current
programs, services and activities based on three key criteria: Program
Attractiveness—the degree to which the program, service, or activity
is attractive as a basis for current and future resource investment;
Competitive Position—the degree to which your organization is
in a strong position to support the program; and Alternative Coverage—other
places seeming to meet the same needs. Program Analysis creates a rational
basis for difficult decisions about growth, or divestment. It also enables
an organization to more confidently project its future program folio
and define the capabilities it will require to sustain indispensable
relevance.
Organizational Planning
What does a successful future look like for your organization? What
are the best steps to take when setting direction to ensure that changes
will actually be adopted? What research is required to understand current
and future needs and perceptions?
Strategic Planning is a key building block for any organization—designed
to guide you through the development of a comprehensive and cohesive
vision and strategy. Setting short term and long term objectives. Linking
your core ideology and envisioned future to strategic business planning.
Integrating an ongoing process to incorporate strategic thinking and
planning into key decision making systems. And creating an action plan
to overcome key obstacles and achieve successful outcomes.

counsel to a wide variety of executives and leadership teams. Our role
in providing access to a coherent stream of informed and knowledgeable
advice is often essential to effectively executing a critical initiative.

of relationship desired, from "just in time" advice to long
term counsel on retainer to "in depth" advisory sessions that
provide access to expertise and experience that can "make the difference."
As a multi-disciplinary practice focused on leadership, strategy and
change, the full range of our firms’ intellectual assets and talents
can be applied in many ways to complex or sensitive conditions. Our
goal is always to enable our clients to take full advantage of "what

intended but unsupported opinions or the limitations of their own experience.

and needs, and select the most effective design in consultation with
our clients. Then, using a facilitation style characterized by our clients
as enjoyable and productive, we use dialogue to help groups illuminate
issues and define choices. In the end, our work is distinguished by
the way our approach inspires commitment to decisions and action.
